La Pedrera
1) Architect: Antoni Gaudí, Josep Maria Jujol
2) Built in: 1906-1912
3) Located in: Barcelona, Spain
4) It is a public building
5) Cost to build: Unknown, sold in 1946 for 18 million pesetas (about $124,000)
6) Reason why it was created: built for Roser Segimón and her husband Pere Milà as a house.
7) I picked it because of the curved wave like features on the outside of the building. Building La Pedrera on the corner of a street was very unique and its cool how it curves along the corner. I also wanted to research it because I didn't know anything about architecture in Spain. I have never been but now i really want to go to see all of the cool buildings and other attractions.
Strong National Museum of Play
1) Architect: Margaret Woodbury Strong
2) Built in: 1968-1969
3) Located in: Manhattan, New York
4) It is a public building
5) Cost to build: Unknown
6) Reason why it was created: To show how industrialization changed everyday life.
7) I picked it because it was located in the United States and this was one of the places I was going to see when I went to New York. I ended up going to a basketball game instead but I am still interested in visiting this museum. I was interested in this museum because it was based off of Mrs. Strong's estate and was renovated and expanded many times into what it is today.
The UFO House
1) Architect: Matti Suuronen
2) Built in: 1978
3) Located in: Taiwan
4) It is a private building, will be public once water park is constructed on the land
5) Cost to build: Unknown
6) Reason why it was created: As a resort for military leaders
7) I picked it because the name interested me. I had never seen a house shaped like a UFO before and the story of the failed building of them was very bizarre. The construction was canceled do to people quitting and mysterious suicides during the building. The UFO house was torn down in 2010 and a real resort/ water park will replace it.
Sculptured House
1) Architect: Charles Deaton
2) Built in: 1963
3) Located in: Colorado
4) It is a private building
5) Cost to build: Unknown, sold for 1.5 million in 2010
6) Reason why it was created: As a house for Charles Deaton
7) I picked it because it looked really cool. I love modern houses and this one really caught my eye. I also thought it was unique that it is in the middle of a forest and not in a city or super populated area. I also have a lot of interest in living in Colorado in the future so I wanted to look at this building since it is located there. I also find it interesting that this building was used in filming a movie, not just as a house.
Nautilus House
1) Architect: Javier Senosiain
2) Built in: 2006-2007
3) Located in: Mexico
4) It is a private building
5) Cost to build: Unknown
6) Reason why it was created: As a house for a couple and their two children
7) I picked it because unique houses that are just built for people's home interest me. The shell shape of the house is different than anything I have seen before. I think it is cool that the building overlooks some mountains because I like buildings that are kind of isolated and not in big cities. I have never been to Mexico but I would like to go there and see more cool houses along with other parts of their culture.
