American Soldier

Image result for ian fisher soldier

1) This picture stuck out to me because you can see how scared Ian is without him having to make an expression. He looks nervous and all of this can be seen from just a blank face. I feel like this picture was perfectly timed to capture these emotions.

2) The images work together because they go in chronological order and work like a timeline. Each picture represents a different stage in his journey and the story can be told just by looking at the pictures.

3) The captions enhance the pictures by providing clarification where it is needed and by telling the reader things that they could not have seen just by looking at the pictures.

4) Ian Fisher enlists into the military at age 17 and must say goodbye to all his friends and family. He must now go through 14 weeks of basic training camp. The following weeks push Fisher to his limits as he must battle long days and hard drills. Fisher works hard but still suffers from injury, drug addiction, and being home sick. He questions if he should be in the army or not. Finally he flies off to Iraq and goes on many missions there. After one year in Iraq, he returns home to his mother and his girlfriend. He and his girlfriend get married just days after he comes back and they couldn't be happier.

5) Most of the captions are written in present tense.

6)
A) Most of the captions are around 2 sentences.
B) The first sentence of the captions narrate what is going on in the picture.
C) The second sentence of the captions provide information that you can't get just from looking at the picture.
D) When there is a third sentence in the caption, it is sometimes a quote or a point a view from another person in the story like a commander or Ian's dad.
E) Yes, some captions include a quote.
F) Yes, some captions are 4 sentences but only 1 or 2.

7) I think it is possible to tell a story with just captions because yo can word it so that the sentences are long and provide a lot of information. However captions can't provide a lot of extra detail or side stories unless there is a picture with it.

8) Writing a story along with pictures and captions is important because you can provide more information and give more details. There might be some things that are worth talking about but there isn't a picture to go with it so you can't write a caption.

Mural Project Preview

1) I think I could shoot some nature next to the buildings down town. I could also shoot lakes or rivers. I could also shoot cool pictures of people with a cool background.

2) I will have to think about ISO, aperture, and shutter speed.

3) We could create a google slide, an instagram account, or a blog with all our pictures on it.

Africa Extra Credit
1)   After looking at the Africa pictures, I found it interesting how the animals were mostly in groups. This presented the animals in a way that makes them look like a real family. I also noticed how the photographers used pictures that had a cool sky in the background with an animal in the foreground. The sky added nice details and made the pictures very appealing.
2)Image result for nick brandt

3)   This is my favorite picture by Nick Brandt because of how eye catching this picture is. Inside the picture there are 2 rhinos on a lake with some mountains in the background. The rhinos are standing on a shallow lakes which is very unusual because lakes are normally deeper. I also like it because the sky looks very pretty.
4)   Lines are in the background as diagonal rays of light come down from the sky. There are also lines on the water that go from one side of the picture to the other. There is also asymmetrical balance in the picture because both rhinos are one side and the mountains in the background are on the other side of the picture.
5)   I believe Nick Brandt uses a P67 120mm Soft Focus Lens. This camera allows him to take very crisp pictures that can either have a blurry background or have the entire picture in focus.
6)   Nick Brandt takes these kinds of pictures because he wanted to show the true personality of these animals by showing them in a calm state.
7)   He hopes that people will see how caring and calm these wild animals can be.
8)   If you go to South America, you can shoot one rare animal, if you go to another place, you can shoot another rare animal. Eastern Africa – one of the few places in the world where the animal world is represented in all its diversity.
9)   His current goal is to educate people about the destruction of nature and different animal's homes.
10)   He found unpublished photos and put them on a giant frame and put them at different sights where some kind of construction was happening.
11)   I think his work can inspire people to take better care of the environment because he has brought it to our attention that it is happening to places of the word that we might not know about.
12)   These new images make made me feel sad and disappointed because I know once we destroy the environment, we can never get it back. Seeing these animals without a home is also sad because I want nature to thrive.
Amusement Park Extra Credit
1)   I would like to visit Takakanonuma Greenland, Hobara, Japan the most out of all the theme parks. I chose this park because of the overgrown trees and plants inside of the theme park. I think it would be cool to shoot pictures of machinery overwhelm with plant life. I also think it would be cool to take pictures of plant life and other vegetation along with the rustic meta of the park to provide contrast.

5)    I think it would be fun to take pictures there because of the natural beauty that this location possesses. I would like to shoot different pictures of nature and people interacting with nature. I would also like to shoot different lake and bodies of water because they make super cool pictures. There are a lot of lakes in Argentina where I would be shooting.
6)   It would take a lot of preparation to go on the necessary trip to Argentina. I would need a lot of warm and cool clothes because the weather in the area varies a lot. The plane ticket and housing there is also rather expensive.
