Framing

Framing

This picture shows framing because the building in the front gives depth to the picture. The building in front just compliments the subject which is the smoking building.

Rule of Thirds

Rule of Thirds

This picture shows rule of thirds because it has something different in each third of the picture and the main subject, (the buildings) is in the bottom third which gives the smoke room to rise in the picture.

Balance

Balance

This picture represents balance because the their is a tower on each side of the screen. It is also divided in half between the top and bottom as the top half is the light color of the sky and the bottom is a dark color of a building.

Lines

Lines

This picture shows lines because it has the lines of the building going up and down while there are also lines of smoke going horizontal which compliment the vertical lines.

Avoiding Mergers

Avoiding Mergers

Firemen taking a break. Devastated like every other New Yorker on 9/11.

This picture is an example of a merger because the firemen's uniform blends into the other uniforms. Because some of the firemen are closer, their heads merge into the background and make it hard to see where their helmet ends. This also distracts from the subject of the picture.

Simplicity

Simplicity

There are many shots from different angles of the planes striking the towers, but one reason there are not thousands of different images is that iPhones had not yet been invented and many phones had no cameras.

This picture shows simplicity because there is a clear background and the main subject (the building) is the main point of focus. The clear background doesn't distract from the building and there are no mergers.

The Camera History and Basic Functions

  1. Camera obscura is when inside a dark room, a hole is created in a wall. Light is focused through the hole, and the outside scene is projected on the other wall. The hole acted like a lens, focusing and projecting light onto the wall.
  2. An important invention in the 1700's is when Isaac Newton and Christian Huygens perfected the understanding of optics and the process of making high quality glass lenses.
  3. Niepce's camera had a glass lens, a dark box, and film.
  4. In both our cameras now and old cameras, light passes through the lens, into the camera, and exposes the film.
  5. Digital cameras capture the images with an electronic sensor called a CCD. Photographs are stored on computer memory devices.
  6. Auto mode completely controls flash and exposure, program mode is point and shoot and you control the flash.
  7. Portrait mode is used to blur out the background.
  8. Sports mode is used to freeze motion, the camera will use the highest shutter speed that it can.
  9. In manual mode the photographer must set both the shutter and the aperture.
  10. The half press allows the subject in the photo to be more in focus because it lets the camera know to get ready to take a picture and start to focus.
  11. No flash, used when you want to use natural light.
  12. Auto flash, used when the camera thinks that you need a flash.
  13. If there is too much light, the picture will be washed out.
  14. If there is not enough light, the picture will be too dark.
  15. A stop is when there is a change of light.
  16. The planet with 2 suns is 1 stops brighter.
  17. The planet with 4 suns is 2 stops brighter.
  18. A longer shutter speed lets more light into the camera.
  19. A shorter shutter speed lets less light into the camera.
  20. The aperture controls the amount of light let into camera.
  21. TO increase the amount of light that you let in, you would add more F-Stops.

This is my photo of a thing. I chose the Bulldog statue because I liked how it stood out against the green in the background. However I don't like the bright light at the top of the picture and the overall exposure looks a little high. I like how my picture shows nature contrasting to the man made stone.

This is my picture of a person. I chose this picture because I like how the flowers match the color of my partner's shirt. In addition to that, I like how the pink of the shirt contrasts the green of the bushes. However I don't like the person's head sticking up in the background.

Welcome to my blog.
I took photo 1 because I have always wanted to know how to use the nice cameras to take better quality pictures. Some of my family has a background in photography and they said I would like editing and and taking high quality pictures. Im excited to be in this class and I look forward to learning more about photography.
